About me.  That’s a tough order.  I’m a…daughter, granddaughter, niece, great-niece, cousin (and several times removed), friend, fur mommy, and wife.  Lots of juggling with all those titles, but I manage.  I am an only child to a working mom and a stay-at-home dad, which made for an interesting and different childhood.  Sadly, I lost my dad at a young age (13), but I credit my love of photography to him.  He was the man behind the camera, which means there are few photos with him in them.  My grandparents were a big part of my life growing up (as was my entire extended family) and while my grandfather is no longer with us (love you grandpop!), my grandmother is.  She fabulous!  A WWII War Bride from Great Britain, she’s awesome.  My mother is one of eight children, so I have five uncles (all married) and two aunts (both married), making 14 aunts and uncles.  My grandfather was one of seven, so I grew up knowing many of his siblings.  I am lucky to have a few of his siblings still here with us.  With all these great-aunts/uncles, and aunts and uncles, you better believe I have cousins! I am one of 19 grandchildren and oh heavens, I have no idea how many outside that.  We one time spoke of a true family reunion where everyone would come and we thought we’d total about 500 people.  I know a good many of my cousins, especially my first cousins.  I’m now old enough that my first cousins have their own children, so we’re growing exponentially.  LOL!  I have friends, but I’m kinda an introvert, so not tons of friends.  I like to think I’m a good friend, but you’d have to ask them that.  I am a furmommy to three fun, crazy, goofy, hilarious cats – Higgenbaffum (Higgy), Pooka, and Elizabeth (the Kitten).  I have had Higgy and Pooka 12 years and Lizzie 6.  They don’t always get along, but they are just the best things in the world.  And last, but not least, I am a wife.  I have a marvelous husband who believes in me no matter what I try.  He believes in me probably more than I believe in myself.  LOL!  I guess that’s why he’s so marvelous, huh?  We married on December 29th in NJ.  Best time of the year to get married in my opinion.  It’s been a great 8.5 years and I’m so happy to have him in my life.

I am a history geek, baseball fanatic (Philadelphia Phillies), reader, blogger, writer, painter, runner, crafter, adventurer, and traveler.  I am fascinated by the personal side of history, I’m not a major battles kinda person.  Tell me about the people who lived and how they lived and I am engaged for hours and will try to figure out how to make others see the importance of it.  Ever see the show Liberty’s Kids?  Love it!  It’s a kids history show about the American Revolution.  If you’re new to history, check it out.  Great PBS show.  Ever hear of a ship named Titanic?  This tragic event in history captured my imagination and I can’t let go.  I read all I can on it.  I watch as much as I can.  If you’re interested too, check out Expedition Titanic.  The ship is slowly disintegrating, making this project so important.  And if you’re ever in an area to see Titanic: The Artifact Exhibit, GO!  There’s one in Las Vegas that’s amazing.  Yes, I’ve been.

I am an avid baseball fan.  I grew up in South Jersey (about 20 minutes south of Philly) and my allegiance lies with the Philadelphia sports teams.  My personal interest is in baseball, so I love the Phillies.  Yes, the Phillies.  I am a fan of the first team to 10,000 losses, the team with only 2 World Series championships in 125 years, the team with a reputation for the worst fans in sports (which I heartily disagree with!), and the team that has become a bandwagon team over the last few years.  I’ve been following them since 1986, so I don’t consider myself a bandwagon fan.  I’ve been going to games at both Veteran’s Stadium and Citizen’s Bank Park and I love them both.  I don’t care if the Vet was a 1970s multi-purpose stadium (the Philadelphia Eagles also played there until they got a new stadium in 2003), that is where I saw my first game and it will always have a special place in my heart.  I am such a fan that I wrote my MA thesis on the Philly sports fan (and would you believe they GAVE me an MA for that???).  Watching my boys in the red, white, and blue during the summer MAKES my summer!

With an interest in history, does it surprise you I like to read?  I’ve read since I was a child and can’t imagine life without books.  I generally am reading several books at one time, which sometimes makes it fun to pick up one of them trying to remember what the heck it’s about!  I always have one on my night stand, then one in the living room, sometimes two in the living room.  Favorite books?  All-time, hands-down favorite is Gone with the Wind.  No doubt about it.  How can you NOT love Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler?  My other favorite book is The Day the World Came to Town about airplane flights that were rerouted on 9/11 to a small Canadian town and how the town made the people on the plane feel welcome when no one knew WHAT was going on.  It’s simply an amazing book.

Obviously I’m a blogger.  I have this blog about my photography and one just about me and my life (Never Trade What You Want the Most for What You Want Right Now).  That’s where I write about all aspects of my life, not just my photography.  I like sharing what’s happening with me, so feel free to wander over and check it out.  It focuses a lot on me trying to get healthy.  It’s a struggle, but I keep trying!

Yes, I like to paint, but it’s not what you think.  I can’t draw a straight line if I had to.  I’m an awful painter.  I have such pretty ideas in my head, but honestly, I have no idea how to get what I see in my head onto paper.  So, I stick with painting other things – ceramics, wood, etc.  I love painting Christmas ornaments and letters.  Now THAT I can do!  And I like doing them and giving them as gifts.  It’s so fun and it’s nice to know something I spent time on will be appreciated.  Oh, I also paint rooms, but only on special occasions.  🙂

I am a runner.  I have to say that because I don’t always feel that way, but my friends say I am because I go out there and do it.  I have run in multiple 5k races (Baltimore Women’s Classic, Ft. McHenry Tunnel Run, Jingle Bell 5k, St. Patrick’s Day 5k, and the Spirit of Gettysburg), the Harrisburg Mile, and an 8k in Wisconsin.  In October, I ran the Baltimore Marathon Relay.  I ran one of the two seven mile legs and loved it!  And this past October, I signed up to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon in February 2011.  Eep!

Crafter?  Is that a word?  I like doing crafts.  I paint (as you know), I cross-stitch, I scrap book, I try to knit and crochet (though I’m not very good!), and I color.  Yup.  I love to take the crayons and grab a coloring book and just color.  Sounds silly, but it’s so much fun!  When was the last time you did that?  If you’re lucky, my cross-stitching habit generally results in presents for people.  Usually, I cross-stitch wedding and baby designs for friends.  I like doing something that seems to be going out of style.  It makes a nice wall decoration and I enjoy finding mats and frames that compliment the design.  I suppose that’s a different style of crafting all together, huh?

I suppose adventurer and traveler may go together.  I love to go places, near or far.  I didn’t travel much as a child, so now that I control things more, I like to go places.  I’ve been to lots of neat places and lots of places you probably wouldn’t think of.  Philly is one of my favorite local places to hit.  So much history there!  I’ve also been to New York, Salem, MA, Baltimore, MD, Orlando, FL, New Orleans, LA, Las Vegas, NV, Milwaukee, WI domestically.  Internationally, I’ve been to Niagara Falls and Toronto, Canada, Ocho Rios, Jamaica, London, England, Paris, France, Rome, Florence, and Venice, Italy.  There are so many more places I want to go!  Traveling is one of the best things you can do and I encourage you to try it, even if it’s just a nearby town you’ve never been to.  Sometimes the places in our own backyards have the best little secrets!
